The Sjenoder book is a sort of replacement to the Tzedahah (charity) box.
Not being allowed to handle money on Shabat, Dutch jews were trying to avoid work prohibition on Shabat by replacing the traditional Tzedakah box by a Sjnoder book.
A Sjnoder book, Sjenoder shelf,  Sjnoder box, contains a list of  names of  jewish community members. On Shabat, it was the custom to insert/put a shoelace into a tiny hole placed by the name of the donor. Laterd on the donor could “cash” his vow to tzedakah.
